World’s First Amphibious Ice-Cream Truck Sails the Thames
HMS Flake 99, the world’s first floating ice-cream truck, was seen sailing the river Thames, yesterday, trying to attract attention to the decreasing number of land ice-cream trucks in the UK.
The mobile ice-cream business in England has definitely seen better days, as the number of ice-cream trucks has dropped from 20,000 to around 5,000, in the last 50 years. They have been banned in areas like housing estates, parks and outside schools due to concerns regarding childhood obesity and noise pollution, and the rising prices of ingredients and fuel don’t help much either. The bizarre HMS Flake 99 was created by Fredericks, the company who makes Cadbury’s ice-cream, hoping it will attract attention to the problem of ice-cream trucks in Britain.
The world’s first amphibious ice-cream truck has sailed past the British Parliament, in London, yesterday, and after a tour of Britain’s beaches, it will embark on a voyage across the English Channel and on to the canals of Venince, next year. It has a top speed of just five knots so you’ll have no problem catching up to it in pretty much any motorized boat, and asking for a refreshing treat, wherever you are.

World’s Most Expensive $1,000 tequila popsicle
Popsicles are normally a effective and cheap way to cool off -- but not at a hotel resort in Mexico, they've launched a lavish $1,000 tequila ice lolly.
The expensive icy treat may come served on a classic plastic stick, but it's made from premium tequila which sells for £1,000 per bottle rather than fruit squash.
But should the Tequilas Premium Clase Azul Ultra not be enough of a draw, there is also the little matter of the 24 ct. gold flakes the Tequila Pop contains.
Bosses at the Marquis Los Cabos resort in Baja California Sur say they expect the premium popsicle to prove popular, but that those on a budget may prefer a straight shot of the Clase Azul Ultra… a snip at $500 a shot.

Restaurant Opens In Grounded Douglas DC6 Plane
Airline food served on little plastic trays is always sure to divide opinion -- but one unique restaurant is redefining what you'd expect to eat on-board a plane.
That's because this unusual eatery, which is the first of it's kind in the UK, is set inside a Douglas DC6 aircraft and run by 35-year-old chef Tony Caunce at Coventry Airport.
With a fully-functioning bar on-board, punters can enjoy draught beers and wines with food from under a tenner up to just £15 for a fillet steak...meaning the owners can brag that the prices aren't too sky high.
The 40-seater restaurant opened two weeks ago with an aviation-themed menu including an 8oz Rapide, Vampire gammon steak, Bomber T-bone steak and a Meteor marinade fillet… luckily you don't have to eat with a tiny plastic knife and fork.
Punters can also have a look at the original cockpit to see what the plane was like when it was flying. Waiters can be called to tables using the original call buttons as you would find on a flight to call a stewardess.
"The plane is an old DC6," said owner Mr Caunce. "It was in use all around the world until only about three and a half years ago.
"It used to fly all across the world, lots of flights to Spain but also transatlantic flights.
"It's a good space for a restaurant and attracts people who are interested in planes as well as people coming through the airfield.
"We've only been open for two weeks but we've already catered for large parties of people coming through the airfield."
Retired pilot Eamonn Williams, who used to fly the plane in it's heyday says he believes the idea is excellent: "I'm ecstatic to see it in use like this, I went as soon as it opened, I loved it, it's a fantastic place to be and they do great food," said 52-year-old Mike.
"The DC6 is my favourite of all the planes I ever flew," said Mike, who retired from flying four years ago and lives in Coventry.
"I flew jumbo jets at the end of my career, which was a sort of childhood dream, but it had nothing on the DC6."
The plane, which is over 50-years-old, was built to fly 92 passengers in comfort across the Atlantic, before being converted to carry cargo, which included transporting race horses.

Largest Ice-Cream | Biggest Cake Ever Made In The World
Yesterday, Canadian company Dairy Queen has set a new world record by making the world’s largest ice-cream cake in Yonge and Dundas Square, Toronto.
It took 100 people over a year to plan the event, but after 30 years and 52 million ice-cream cakes sold, this was the perfect way to celebrate, according to Denise Hutton, vice-president of marketing at Dairy Queen Canada. Dozens of chefs worked around the clock using over 9,000 kg of ice-cream, 91 kg of sponge cake, around 136 kg of icing and Oreo crumbles, to beat the former world record, a nearly 8,000 kg ice-cream cake made by China, in 2006.
After the cake was completed and acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records, pieces of it were served to the crowd gathered in Yonge and Dundas Square, with 100% of suggested donations going to Children’s Miracle Network. “When else can eating ice cream cake help to fund medical care, research and educational programs so that Canadian kids have access to world-class care? It’s the best of all worlds – a delicious treat and a great cause.” said the charity’s Paul Lethbridge.

Cheese Shoes Created By Fromage Design Students
Fashion students have got the whiff of success after creating a range of cheese couture... including these suitably cheesy shoes.
The cheese-based fashion has been crafted by students from Bath Spa University to promote regional produce and will go on show at the Royal Bath and West Show.
Lisa Dillon made these "Jimmy Cheese" shoes using West Country cheddar and bread, sculpting the heel from a block of Cheddar and using a stale cheese sandwich for part of the platform sole.
The front was then moulded from more Cheddar and extra melted cheese was shaped to embellish the design… we think they really take the biscuit… but you might think they stink.
The fashionistas have also made other accessories such as hats, belts and ties out of cheese and cheese wrappers.
Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors course leader Amanda Goode, said of the students: "They have risen to the challenge and really pushed the boat out, experimenting with the cheese and coming up with some fabulous ideas which only youth could think of."

Royal Wedding Gets Recreated In Pizza Portrait
Bookies recently gave punters the chance to bet on what would be served as the main course at the wedding dinner of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Offering odds of 50/1 it would be pizza.
Well we wonder what odds they would give that this royal wedding pizza portrait would be making its way to plates at the event?
The odd pizza has been created by food artists working for Papa John’s as a way of celebrating the forthcoming marriage (and getting Papa John’s mentioned in the news).
Kate’s veil is made from mushrooms and her dress from cheese, while William’s morning suit has been created out of salami and peppers… that's the pizza we're talking about, not the clothes for the big day.
A spokesperson for Papa John’s said: "It seems like the whole country has got Royal Wedding fever, so we just had to do something special to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Artist Plays With Her Food To Create Odd Animals
It's a good job Vanessa Dualib forgot everything her mom told her about not playing with your food… because its now part of how she makes a living.
The 29-year-old artist and photographer creates amazing animals out of misshapen food and then takes photos of then before then go rotten.
She also create a back story about the fruit animals - like this blowfruit (above) which she says lives in South China but once a year swims to Brazil.
Vanessa has so far created around 70 different fruit animals… and if she doesn't fancy what's for dinner this evening it could be 71.
Speaking of her art Vanessa, from Sao Paolo in Brazil, said: "I love photos, I love food and I hardly can say I take life too serious.. so this is my tribute! To life, to food, to photography and to you!"
This is Gary, a rare species of Snail called a Snana. It's in his nature to 'go bananas'.
Jellyveggies are free-swimming members of the beet family. When attacked, they have many leaf-tentacles that inject a somewhat lively and bitter taste in the mouth of their predators.

Pancake Stack
In a bid to celebrate Pancake Day in the only way they know how, staff from TV channel Food Network UK have created the world's tallest stack of pancakes. And why not.
The impressive pancake tower took over 13 hours to produce and required a whopping 253 eggs, 11lbs of flour and over 26 pints of milk.
After the hours of hard work they were lest with 725 pancakes which were stacked into a 32 inch high tower to break the current record.
Should you fancy setting pancake-based record yourself when you get home, the highest pancake flip currently stands at 9.17m, the largest pancake measured 15m long and the most pancakes eaten in 1 hour by an individual is 855. Good luck.
Nick Thorogood, of Food Network UK said: "One of the greatest aspects of British Food is its tradition and the celebration of events such as Pancake Day.
"We wanted to celebrate this year’s Pancake Day with something a little different and what better way than to create a giant stack of pancakes!
"Needless to say the team at the Food Network UK headquarters are going to have their fill by the end of the day!"

A wacky restaurant in London has started selling ice cream which is made from human breast milk… and served with a rusk and shot of Calpol.
Bosses at The Icecreamists in Covent Garden say the £14 per serving 75% breast milk ice cream - dubbed Baby Gaga - is surprisingly tasty and good for you.
After the breast milk has been expressed on site it is pasteurised and then churned with Madagascan vanilla pods and lemon zest. Then it's ready to go on sale.
Because of demand, the restaurant is now appealing for breast milk donations and say women will be paid £15 for every 10 ounces of milk… who's going to be nipping out to give it a try?
The Icecreamists founder Matt O'Connor said: "If it's good enough for our children, it's good enough for the rest of us," he said.
"Some people will hear about it and go yuck - but actually it's pure organic, free-range and totally natural."
Scores of people flocked to the 36th annual cake exhibition in Bangalore, where a cake modelled on the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai was displayed in the show.
The chairman of the cake show said the iconic hotel was chosen this year to remember those who were killed in the Mumbai attacks.
"This year we chose Taj Hotel. It is also a contribution to the people who have lost their lives there. And then the other thing is the presence of the U.S. President who stayed there," said Ramachandran, Chairman, Cake Show.
"Totally 15 people worked on the cake for almost 18,000 man hours and almost two months," he added.
The monument model was built with five tonnes of sugar, and measured 22 feet in length and 14 feet in width.
All the structures were built using sugarcane and edible gelatine and colours.
"This is a very amazing affair. It has a fan club. Totally a different kind of thing. Kids really enjoy it. It is a different concept altogether for an event, for an exhibition, and it is amazing. The crowd which comes, they are all zapped and amazed to see such a beautiful thing," said Goutham, organiser of the fair.
Each year the cake show, organized by Blue Hill Company (Nilgiris) and National Consumer Fair includes miniature edible monuments as the highlight of the exhibition.
Apart from this, varieties of rich plum cakes, marzipans, chocolates, cookies, ice creams, dairy desserts and Christmas goodies were available for purchase at the fair. (ANI)
Apart from the Taj Hotel cake, the 10-day exhibition will have on display cakes depicting nursery rhyme character Humpty Dumpty, a jewel box, a boat house and even a grandfather's clock. By Sweta (ANI)

A giant advertising billboard made from 110kg of cheese has been revealed in Covent Garden, London -- bizarrely to promote broadband internet services.
The 5m x 4m cheese sculpture features an image of Speedy Gonzales the cartoon mouse (the only link to cheese we can think of) and the text "Super Speedy Broadband."
Virgin Media say the billboard is made from 10 cheeses and took food artist, Prudence Staite and her 13-strong team eight days to create in a specially chilled studio.
Asked what they made of the advert, some passers-by thought it was 'grate' while others said it 'stinks' adding that the advertising men must be 'crackers'… sorry I camembert any more cheesy puns.
Prudence, from Gloucestershire, said of her work: "I have been asked to craft many a strange thing in my time, but a cheese billboard certainly takes the biscuit, or should I say cracker!
"It was quite a challenge but I am extremely proud that I have helped Virgin Media bring Speedy Gonzales back to the UK."
For any curious cheese fans out there the types used were; Shropshire Blue, Cheshire, Lancashire, Cheddar (mild, medium and mature), Chilli Cheddar, Double Gloucester, Red Leicester and Wensleydale.
