Theatre Show Designed to Send Audience to Sleep
If you doze off at the theatre, it's normally a sign the show you're at isn't very good. But that not the case at the Barbican in London… they've got a show designed to send you to sleep.

Their production 'Lullaby' has been specially created to send the audience to sleep and consists of things such as soothing storytelling and singing octopuses.

If that wasn't enough, the audience lie in pre-booked beds and attend the 'sublime sleepover' in their pyjamas - ready to be lulled to sleep by the slumber-inducing show.

After watching the action and falling asleep, the audience are left to sleep before being woken and served breakfast the following morning at 7.30am… which sure beats a Travelodge.

Producer Simon Casson says he has fallen asleep in shows including Lord of the Rings and Oliver so came up with the idea of created a specifically designed to send people to sleep.

So far no-one has stayed awake to the end of the show and the cast have to made do with snores rather than a round of applause.

    Easter Egg
    Decorating Easter Egg Hunting Ideas

Easter eggs are special eggs that are often given to celebrate Easter or springtime.

The oldest tradition is to use dyed or painted chicken eggs, but a modern custom is to substitute chocolate eggs, or plastic eggs filled with confectionery such as jelly beans. These eggs are often hidden, allegedly by the Easter Bunny, for children to find on Easter morning. Otherwise, they are generally put in a basket filled with real or artificial straw to resemble a bird's nest.

Just when you think you’ve seen everything, along comes another mind-boggling art form that you didn’t think existed and probably never even imagined. This time it’s coloring eggs.

I can say I’ve seen my share of wonderful Easter egg artworks, including intricate eggshell sculptures, colorful Easter Egg mosaics, an Easter Egg Tree and even an Easter Egg theme park, but I had never seen something as beautiful and original as these embroidered eggs. It’s something I know I will never be able to do, but like Mary Corbett says, it’s amazing to know someone out there did do it.

I know they look pretty unbelievable, and at first glance you’d be tempted to think the embroidered motifs are done separately and glued on the eggs, but after taking a closer look you notice the holes, and realize these are real embroidered eggs. I don’t know who invented this incredible technique, but I’m pretty sure they require years of practice and a lot of patience to create. So, even though Easter 2011 is behind us, you can start practicing now, and you might just have something to brag about to your friends, next year.

Cheese Shoes Created By Fromage Design Students
Cheese Shoes Created By Fromage Design Students

Fashion students have got the whiff of success after creating a range of cheese couture... including these suitably cheesy shoes.

The cheese-based fashion has been crafted by students from Bath Spa University to promote regional produce and will go on show at the Royal Bath and West Show.

Lisa Dillon made these "Jimmy Cheese" shoes using West Country cheddar and bread, sculpting the heel from a block of Cheddar and using a stale cheese sandwich for part of the platform sole.

The front was then moulded from more Cheddar and extra melted cheese was shaped to embellish the design… we think they really take the biscuit… but you might think they stink.

The fashionistas have also made other accessories such as hats, belts and ties out of cheese and cheese wrappers.

Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors course leader Amanda Goode, said of the students: "They have risen to the challenge and really pushed the boat out, experimenting with the cheese and coming up with some fabulous ideas which only youth could think of."

One of the most popular tourist attractions in the Swedish city of Malmö, the giant lamp of Lilla Torg square seems like something taken out of Alice in Wonderland.

First installed in 2006, the 5.8 meters high lamp quickly became a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. Featuring a foot that also acts as a bench, this installation was created with the idea of giving passers-by a chance to sit down, relax and forget about daily stress, if only just for a few minutes. Throughout the year, the enormous lamp tours the various squares of Malmö, but on December 15, just before Christmas, it always returns to Lilla Torg.

It looks cool enough as it is, but it would be even better if someone would build a giant nightstand, and maybe a glass of water, to go with the lamp. And if it wasn’t bizarre enough, the giant lamp of Lilla Torg actually talks, as well. Check it out in the video at the bottom.

A yacht has been designed to create a floating version of the streets of Monaco - complete with casino and racetrack.

The scaled-down landmarks would feature on the deck of the 500ft long ‘The Streets of Monaco’ yacht which would cater for 16 guests and 70 crew.

There's also swimming pools, tennis courts and other Monaco favourites like a Hotel de Paris, Cafe de Paris, La Rascasse and Loews Hotel.

If there are any multi-billionaire Spluch readers out there (you know our normal demographic) it's worth noting the yacht will cost around £700 million to buy.
A spokesperson for designers Yacht Island Design said: "The Streets of Monaco is the focal point of our story and the anchor for the themes that run throughout the yacht, revolving around a recreation of the famous Monaco Grand Prix race circuit.

"This fully functional kart circuit sets the stage for other famous locations seen on a lap of the principality."

A French artist says coastguards are constantly trying to 'save' him whenever he takes his boat out -- and it's not hard to see why.

Julien Berthier has created 'Love Love' a boat which permanently looks like it is sinking and sticking out of the water.

The zany 35-year-old from Paris took a wrecked boat which he found in Normandy, cut it in half and sealed the end with fibre-glass before fitting two electric motors.

It's said the result is a 'surprisingly stable' craft, where the sailor sits in an upside down seat. Of course the problem is, no-one will ever know if he is in real trouble.

Speaking of his unusual ship Berthier told Newslite: "I froze the moment just a few seconds before the boat disappears forever, creating this endless vision of its most dramatic moment.

"Yet, something not noticable at first glance comes in the way of this stereotyped image. The boat actually doesn't sink.

"And the sailor, well installed in an upside down seat, doesn't seem to panic. Looking closely at it, he can even sail his wrecked ship."

The New Decor’ is an art exhibition currently on at the Hayward Gallery in London. The exhibit features 30 artists and is designed to explore “the evolution of interior and exterior environments.” The artists have essentially created provocative installations from everyday household furniture or items.

I particularly love the roller coaster-resembling bed by Los Carpinteros. It looks like it would be such a blast to have a slumber party on, or even just to roll around in for a while. The New Decor looks like a fascinating exhibition.

Tokujin Yoshioka Snow and Sensing Nature Exhibition Hundreds of pounds of feathers, rising, swirling and settling in a 50-feet installation — Tokujin Yoshioka "snow" aims to evoke the Snowscapes of our memories. I hope it's really cold inside.

It's part of three-artist exhibition, "Sensing Nature," which invites you to observe aspects of the natural world from an entirely new perspective. The artists take on a myriad of natural subjects: forests, light, snow, and wind, illustrating how nature can incorporate and involve all forms of life.
